Two very different buildings, two very different lighting problems
Commercial work in Breckenridge splits cleanly in half. Down in the historic district, the Victorian-era buildings reward precision — tight trim outlining that follows the architecture, clean lines along gable edges and porch rooflines, nothing sagging or improvised. Those details are visible from three feet away on a sidewalk, so the work has to hold up at close range.
Up the ski hill, around Peak 7 & 8, Shock Hill and the Highlands, the timber-and-metal builds are a different job entirely. Those properties are large, steep and seen from a distance — from the road, from the lift, from across the valley. A display that reads beautifully on a downtown storefront disappears on a 40-foot gable. Those buildings need scale, spacing and brightness chosen for how far away the viewer actually is.
Standing-seam metal roofs rule out most of the hardware
Metal roofing is everywhere on the newer commercial and lodging builds here, and it changes the install. Adhesives fail in the cold. Anything that penetrates the panel is off the table — you do not put holes in a roof that sheds snow for a living. We use non-penetrating attachment made for standing seam and metal edges, set at intervals tight enough to hold through the wind that comes across the higher exposures.
Snow load, ice and the long haul from November to January
A commercial display in Breckenridge is not up for a few weeks. It sits under accumulating snow, through freeze-thaw at the roof edge, through nights well below zero, for two months or more. Consumer-grade light strings go brittle and drop sections. We install professional-grade materials and commercial connectors, and we service the display through the season — if a run goes dark the week before Christmas, we come fix it.
